snapshot- not planned/staged, to keep a memory, quick shot, often spontaneous, taken to record a moment.
Photo- Planned, image taken with care and thought.
Rule of thirds- imaginary grid made to help you avoid a centered photo. Place focal points near where lines on the 3x3 grid meets an intersection. Set horizon line in the top or bottom horizontal divider. Or fill the entire frame.
Leading Lines- use the lines created in the foreground to lead the viewers eye through the photo. Lines can draw attention to one or more points.
Point of view- change the way your subject is perceived by changing the camera position. If you want your subject to look tall take the picture while the camera is facing upwards and vice versa.
Simplicity- keep your background simple and clean of clutter.
Chaotic composition will cause the viewer to look away.
